“There’s a lady who’s sure all that glitters is gold,
and she’s buying a stairway to heaven.”
– Led Zeppelin
A wise man once said, “With enough steel and know-how just about any staircase is possible!” That man is Dave Silvia, the head of our Cooper Stairworks division. Dave has been working in the stair industry for over 32 years and is extremely passionate about building well designed stairs. He went on to explain to me that it’s not just about steel, our stair shop utilizes the finest kiln-dried lumber, state-of-the-art technology, innovative fasteners, and lots of experience when constructing our most complex staircases.
Unsupported staircases, also known as a ‘flying’ or ‘gallery’ staircases, shoot up from the center of an open space, are unsupported on either side, and open underneath. The unsupported staircase makes a dramatic impact, both in the room as a whole and on the person ascending the stairs.
The problem is unsupported staircase are often difficult to construct properly from scratch on-site. Our Cooper preassembled staircases are digitally engineered by our designers in our CAD office, and then built by craftsmen and state-of-the-art machinery in our shop in Somerset MA. The result is a staircase that becomes a work-of-art and makes a statement in the home.
