Featured Project // October 2026

We’re excited to introduce our October 2026 Featured Project, a grand custom kitchen designed for The Wayside in Newport. This is only the beginning of a month-long series exploring the many details that make this kitchen so special.

Tucked among the celebrated Gilded Age mansions of Newport’s Bellevue Avenue, The Wayside is a 10,000-square-foot, 10-bedroom home recently renovated and transformed into a private luxury estate getaway.

The Wayside gives guests the rare opportunity to experience the grandeur of Newport, with an entire estate to themselves. Designed for large groups of family and friends to vacation and celebrate together, the home offers all the comforts of a private retreat, including a pool, grand dining room and chef’s kitchen that becomes the heart of the stay.

That’s where Horner Millwork came in…

As part of the estate’s complete renovation, Horner’s kitchen design team was asked to create a custom kitchen that would complement the scale and character of the property. It needed to be equally suited for gourmet cooking, large gatherings and relaxed mornings spent together around its two islands.

The team behind The Wayside spared no expense, giving Horner kitchen designer Mike Sollecito the freedom to create a kitchen that would leave a lasting impression on everyone who stayed there. Always one to welcome a design challenge, Mike created a one-of-a-kind Covered Bridge kitchen filled with custom features, clever design details and exceptional craftsmanship.

The perimeter cabinetry features Covered Bridge’s Jefferson door style in maple with a custom Simply White finish. The two islands feature the same Jefferson door style in walnut with a custom natural finish. The classic white perimeter cabinetry provides a beautiful contrast to the rich, dark walnut at the center of the kitchen.

But this is only the beginning of the story.
Nearly every area of the kitchen contains a special feature designed by Mike specifically for The Wayside. Throughout October, we’ll be sharing more about his design process, the cabinetry and the intricate details that make this kitchen so unique. Stay tuned as Mike takes us behind the design and reveals more of what went into this fully custom kitchen in the weeks ahead.
