For our July Featured Project, we could not think of a better project to share than this incredible backyard living space featuring Phantom Dual-Track Motorized Retractable Screens. Built by Garrett Federow of Federow Development LLC, and designed by McKay Architects, this beautiful outdoor retreat brings together every element of a dream backyard oasis: a luxury pool, gourmet outdoor kitchen, grand stone fireplace, fire bowls, expansive living area, television, and plenty of room to gather with family and friends.

A Backyard Designed for Gathering

The covered living area is the true heart of the backyard. With open views to the pool and surrounding patio, it feels less like a traditional outdoor patio and more like a natural extension of the home. Designed for entertaining across the seasons, the space needed a screen system that could bring comfort and flexibility to the room while maintaining its open connection to the outdoors.

A Screen System Built for Flexibility

To help make that possible, Horner Millwork was brought in to provide the Phantom Motorized Retractable Screens. This was not an average screen project. For such an expansive opening, the homeowners needed more than insect protection for summer evenings. They needed a system that could provide airflow when desired, block wind when needed, help retain warmth on cooler days, and still preserve the open-air feeling that makes the space so inviting.

The solution was a dual-track Phantom motorized retractable screen system, featuring both insect mesh and clear vinyl. With the touch of a button, the dual-track system gives the homeowners the flexibility to switch between mesh for airflow and insect protection, or clear vinyl to help block wind and retain warmth on cooler days.

Combined with the ceiling heaters and fireplace, this outdoor space can be used more like a four-season entertaining room. It is a setting made for a Fourth of July party by the pool, a cozy fall evening by the fire, or even the Big Game with friends and family gathered around the TV in February.

Phantom’s specialized motorized track system is designed for larger openings like this one, helping the fabric stay smooth, secure, and properly tensioned. At the touch of a button, the screens and vinyl roll down when needed and disappear effortlessly into their cassette when they are not in use.

Planning, Installation, and Service from Horner

For this project, Garrett Federow worked closely with Horner Millwork’s Phantom expert, Jay Correia, to plan the right system for this expansive outdoor living space. Our Phantom sales representatives have been trained and certified at Phantom’s headquarters in British Columbia, giving our team the product knowledge needed to help builders, architects, and homeowners plan the right system for each project. Once the project is ready, Horner’s own factory-certified installation team handles the installation from start to finish.

Our relationship does not end once the screens are installed. We remain available for future service and maintenance, so homeowners know they have a local team they can call if a need ever comes up.
