This month’s Featured Project is one we could easily call our Project of the Year. While it holds our March spotlight, it also appears on both the front and back covers of our 2026 Horner Wall Calendar, a reflection of just how special this home truly is.

When a young family discovered this authentic midcentury modern home on the market, they immediately envisioned what it could become. Originally built in the 1950s, the home offered clean lines, warm materials, and a serene backyard framed by towering pine trees in an idyllic community to raise a family. It had everything they had hoped for in both style and setting. There was just one obstacle. The existing floor plan no longer supported modern family living.

After an earlier renovation in 2019, it was time to complete the transformation and reimagine the home for the way this family truly lives. The homeowners partnered with the renowned team at Goff Borden Architects and WKP Builders to update the remainder of the home. What followed was a full-scale renovation that included a dramatic reworking of the layout, a new kitchen, updated bedrooms for the children, and a stunning new primary suite complete with his and hers closets and an expansive bath.

Two years later, the result is nothing short of extraordinary. Horner Millwork was proud to play a significant role in this whole-home renovation, with our products woven throughout the interior and exterior. From the doors and windows to the cabinetry, mouldings, flooring, ceiling, and siding, nearly every architectural element was supplied by our team.

A Front Door Sets the Stage for Years of Memories
Guests are welcomed by a striking yet understated Captiva Custom Wood Door in white oak, paired with an oversized sidelite that floods the entry with natural light. The plank-style square-groove detail immediately sets the tone for the architectural language that lies beyond. Crafted in our own shop in Somerset, MA, Captiva Custom Wood Doors begin with select hardwoods and are transformed into statement pieces designed to stand the test of time. This doorway will frame years of memories, from first-day-of-school photos to graduation send-offs, quiet goodbyes, and joyful homecomings. The front door is more than an entry point. It becomes part of the family story.

A Kitchen Designed for Family Living
The kitchen was completely reimagined to celebrate openness and connection. The homeowners worked closely with Horner Kitchen Designer Mike Sollecito to bring Goff Borden Architects’ vision to life while ensuring the space worked effortlessly for a busy young family. The reworked floor plan now allows the kitchen and living spaces to function as one grand, cohesive environment, ideal for both entertaining and everyday family life.

Featuring Covered Bridge Cabinetry in white oak, the cabinetry perfectly matches the custom white oak flooring and ceiling, both crafted by Horner Millwork. Utilities are thoughtfully concealed to maintain a sleek profile, allowing the architecture and materials to take center stage. The visual continuity is striking. Warm wood wraps the space from below and above, creating a grounded yet airy atmosphere that feels distinctly midcentury modern.

Living Room: Where Indoors Meets Outdoors
The living room flows directly from the kitchen and extends outward through floor-to-ceiling Kolbe Ultra Series patio doors and expansive windows. The transition from kitchen to living room to patio to outdoor kitchen feels seamless. This indoor-outdoor relationship is one of the hallmarks of midcentury modern design, and it is executed beautifully here. The custom white oak floors and ceiling by Horner Millwork, along with Captiva white oak interior doors, run like a continuous thread throughout the home.

Interior Doors: Continuity in Every Detail
Custom Captiva interior doors in white oak carry the same plank-style square-groove detail found on the front entry. Choosing Captiva for both the exterior and interior doors ensures perfect continuity. The grain, the detail, and the tone align seamlessly throughout the home, reinforcing the warmth of the midcentury modern aesthetic. Eclisse pocket door frames were selected for their smooth operation and effortless movement. With soft-close functionality and easy installation, they deliver performance while saving space.

Windows That Frame the Landscape
Sightlines were a major focus throughout the renovation. Kolbe Ultra Series windows, known for their low-profile design, allow for more glass, more natural light, and uninterrupted views. Floor-to-ceiling windows and patio doors blur the line between indoors and outdoors, framing the surrounding manicured grounds like living artwork. A constant connection to nature remains at the heart of the design, another defining element of midcentury modern architecture.

Natural Warmth in the Primary Bath
The new primary suite addition offers a private retreat for the homeowners. The bathroom features his and hers vanities in Starmark Cabinetry, floating in white oak to echo the natural warmth found throughout the home. Midcentury modern design is rooted in clean lines and natural materials, and these vanities embody both. Thoughtful planning ensured that the bathroom cabinetry received the same attention and respect as the kitchen cabinetry. Nothing was treated as an afterthought.

Seamless Outdoor Living
The patio extends the home’s living space into the landscape. A Danver outdoor kitchen supplied by Horner anchors the space, alongside an outdoor dining area and fireplace. Designed by landscape architect Design Outside, the grounds feel like a natural continuation of the home. The home does not end at the walls, it expands into its surroundings.

Patio Doors and Private Gardens
Multiple Kolbe Ultra Series exterior doors open to private garden spaces, strengthening the indoor-outdoor relationship. Natural materials, white oak, stone, and glass, repeat throughout, grounding the design and maintaining a strong connection to the landscape beyond. Horner Millwork also provided the exterior wood siding, continuing the use of warm, natural materials that define the home both inside and out.

A Staircase with Clean Lines
The staircase, originally crafted by Cooper Stairworks during the 2019 renovation with Studio J2 Architects, remains a defining architectural feature. Its clean tread-and-riser detailing and modern cable rail system align beautifully with the home’s midcentury lines.

Built on Collaboration

It was an honor to work alongside WKP Builders, Goff Borden Architects, landscape architect Design Outside, and interior designer Jameson Ray on this extraordinary project. It is not often that we have the opportunity to share a home where the interior and exterior doors, windows, kitchen and bath cabinetry, mouldings, stair, flooring, and ceiling were all supplied by Horner Millwork. This project beautifully demonstrates how we can support a home holistically, bringing consistency, continuity, and collaboration to every layer of the design.

This project was more than a renovation. It is a preservation of architectural integrity paired with a thoughtful evolution for modern living. It is a home that tells a story, and we are proud that Horner Millwork is part of it.
