A Dream Realized on the Rhode Island Coast // Perched atop 50 acres of farmland and rolling hills, this compound-style estate is surrounded by sweeping 360-degree views of the Atlantic Ocean, nearby ponds, and pastoral landscapes. With a site this extraordinary came equally complex design challenges, including including how to harness the expansive views, shield the home from harsh ocean winds, and create uninterrupted connections between indoor and outdoor spaces.

Homeowner and designer Karen Clarke, working with architect Chris Cote of Cote Architecture and Jacob Talbot Fine Homebuilding, set out to design a home that would celebrate its natural surroundings through transparency, sustainability, and thoughtful detailing. Clarke’s vision was brought to life with the help of our Horner Millwork team, who proudly supplied the Kolbe Ultra Series and VistaLuxe windows that became a cornerstone of the home’s architectural style.

Kolbe Windows // Throughout the home, expansive floor-to-ceiling glass openings frame panoramic views while flooding each room with natural light. The Kolbe VistaLuxe Collection, with its clean lines and minimalist profiles, was used to create a modern aesthetic, while Kolbe Ultra Series windows offered the flexibility and performance needed for custom configurations throughout the home. Phantom Screens // A stunning outdoor living room anchors the home’s connection to the coastal environment. Surrounded by three open sides and featuring a dramatic stone fireplace, this room invites nature in while keeping the comforts of home. Each large opening is outfitted with Phantom Motorized Retractable Screens installed by Horner Millwork. With the touch of a button, these screens disappear or extend, letting the homeowners enjoy a bug-free breeze without losing the view. Learn more about Phantom >

Energy-Conscious Design // A passionate advocate for sustainable design, Clarke outfitted the home with a geothermal heating system, a 53-panel solar array, and high-performance glazing to maximize energy efficiency. “We were very interested in being as green as possible,” she noted, and every design decision was rooted in that ethos. The Kolbe window package, upgraded for energy performance, played a key role in reducing the home’s overall energy demands while maintaining expansive views and natural light.

Bridging Past and Present // While the home embraces a modern aesthetic, it also honors the character of the land. A barn on the property was thoughtfully reconstructed, complete with its original cupola and weathervane, preserving its place as a landmark on the surrounding landscape. With Kolbe windows throughout, the estate achieves a thoughtful blend of innovation and tradition, perfectly suited to its storied setting.
