Time to shine: Our new 4,250 panel solar array

Time to shine: Our new 4,250 panel solar array

Here at Horner Millwork we believe that as a member of the building industry we are deeply connected to the health and well-being of our planet. We are committed to providing sustainably sourced and energy efficient building materials to help our customers build LEED certified and Energy Star rated homes and commercial buildings. Furthermore, as a manufacturer here in New England, we are mindful of our carbon footprint and the effects that we have on the environment. Did you know that the sawdust produced in our woodshops is recycled into wood pellet fuel to help heat local homes in our community?

Over the past several years we have made many improvements to our manufacturing and logistics processes to help reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. We have installed energy efficient lighting throughout our plant and offices, and upgraded our shipping department so we can more efficiently distribute our products to jobsites throughout Southern New England. Perhaps most noteworthy, in 2017 we installed a 1551 kilowatt (kW) solar energy system on the roof of our Somerset, MA manufacturing plant (see photo above).

We are pleased to announce that the 4,250 panel solar array is now up and running and projected to cover 90% of Horner Millwork’s annual electricity consumption here in Somerset! The implementation of this renewable energy project is one more step in the right direction in our commitment to help protect and conserve the environment by seeking solutions that encourage long-term sustainability.
